Wow. What a day so far. We woke up. As usual, t had invaded my cushion and my head was about 2.5 feet from where my pillow was. She claims she wanted to cuddle, but my inner sanctum tells me she wanted to steal my cushion for her well being. At this point it was like 6:45am and the sun was not shining on us yet. With the windchill, outside shrinkage factor was at about -2 inches or if you were hoping for fareinheit, in the 30s. Frost everywhere. We scrambled to get ready for breakfast at 7:30. Again, we got crispy fried eggs, which are awesome every time, I always get to eat t’s because she hasn’t grown up to adult breakfast foods yet. I’m not complaining. Today I switched it up and put each egg on a piece of toast. Yum. We both ate a banana. I also had hot Milo.

We actually did a good job of getting ready this morning. I had the guys fill up my camelbak and two of our liter bottles. We still can’t figure out the darn Steripen. We were able to leave around 8:30. We climbed for about 3 hours where we reached about 4600 – 4700 meters for lunch to acclimate for tomorrow’s climb. The lunch area was pretty neat. We were blocked from the wind “opapu” because of these huge rock formations. The rest of the climb was a descent back down to 3600 meters.

Most of the hike today was rocky. It started out sunny, but once the clouds rolled in, we had to put on out jackets and eventually gloves. It was actually snowing ever so lightly at lunch. During the descent it turned back from cloudy-misty-snowyish non fun to sun down by camp. We crossed many frozen streams on the way. It was easy to tell where the streams were because there was actually plant life.

A few interesting sights of the day included the closest shot of the peak so far, a 25 foot waterfall and a glimpse of the beginning of tomorrow’s hike which looks very curvy and very steep.

Good Luck just served us cucumber soup and after smarting from yesterday we are waiting for his main course. The soup was sweet and tasty and was served with a spicy, buttery cheese sandwich.

He just came back with a large shell pasta with a mushroom, pepper and onion sauce.
